To The Woman Who Thinks She's Unworthy Of Community

As I write this post my family and I are traveling across Kansas on our way to our new home in Colorado. Our new home is approximately 1100 miles from our old and life long homes in West Virginia. It is safe to say this is quite the adventure for us.

With this new adventure comes the challenge of making new friends and finding a new community to do life with. As someone who is not the most socially out going I know how hard it can be to make new friends and build community.

A common challenge I see in women is the lie that they are somehow unworthy of the community they long for or that they have nothing to offer such a group of people. These are just that. Lies.

Today we are going to look at some reasons why you are worthy of connection and community.

Family is part of the design

Let’s start with the fact that God is within Himself a community. When you were saved you were instantly made a child of God which means you instantly we’ve been made part of a family.

He came to the very people he created — to those who should have recognized him, but they did not receive him. But those who embraced him and took hold of his name were given authority to become the children of God! John 1:11-12 (TPT)

God is now your Father. He’s adopted you into His family and given you His name.

And you did not receive the “spirit of religious duty,”  leading you back into the fear of never being good enough.  But you have received the “Spirit of full acceptance,” enfolding you into the family of God. And you will never feel orphaned, for as he rises up within us, our spirits join him in saying the words of tender affection, “Beloved Father!” Romans 8:15 (TPT)

You are also now joint heirs with Jesus. Romans 8:17 says:

“And since we are his true children, we qualify to share all his treasures, for indeed, we are heirs of God himself. And since we are joined to Christ, we also inherit all that he is and all that he has. We will experience being co-glorified with him provided that we accept his sufferings as our own.” (TPT)

You Are Worthy

Here is the bottom line. You have been born into a family with an identity and worthiness. It has nothing to do with you or your performance and it is all because Jesus.

Community is your right as a born again believer. It is part of your inheritance. No one is more or less deserving. No one is more or less a part. We are equal. You have something to contribute.

Next time you are feeling like you don’t fit in or belong or like you have nothing to contribute remember this: There is a role only you can play. There are needs only you can meet. You are full of ideas and energy that your corner of the world needs. You do belong because Jesus says so.

So let’s be brave and choose to show up and be our authentic selves!
