8 Verses You Don’t Know But Totally Should

The Bible is a large book. We have our life verses, our memory verses and our bumper sticker verses that we have heard quoted a hundred and two times throughout our lives. We all have those verses we have heard so many times we can quote them from memory even though we have no idea where they actually are in scripture…or if they’re even in scripture. (Example - Cleanliness is next to godliness. Heard this my whole life. Can quote it. Found out in my late teens it’s not even in the Bible. Anyways, I digress.)

Today I wanted to share a handful of verses that I love but I feel like they could use some more love. These are verses that are awesome (as all scripture is) but we just don’t hear them quoted as often as others and that okay. That makes these like hidden treasures!

Psalm 9:10

And those who know your name put their trust in you, for you, O Lord, have not forsaken those who seek you.

Now if you have been around the blog for a minute you now I love this verse. I wrote a whole post about how this verse is a key to Trusting God More. Those who know His name, which God has many and each further reveal His nature and character, put their trust in Him. You have to know Him as trustworthy in order to trust Him.

Habakkuk 2:2

And the Lord answered me: "Write the vision; make it plain on tablets, so he may run who reads it.

Has God given you a vision or a promise? Has He planted a desire inside you? Write it out. Make it plain. When the time come to act on it all will be able to read it and run with it.

Zephaniah 3:17

The Lord your God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save; he will rejoice over you with gladness; he will quiet you by his love; he will exult over you with loud singing.

Who wouldn’t love to be quieted by His love today? This is one of those treasure verses that reminds me that God really really likes me. What a spectacular thought.

1 John 4:17

By this is love perfected with us, so that we may have confidence for the day of judgment, because as he is so also are we in this world.

This is one of those verses that just completely blows my mind and shakes my worldview. As Jesus is, so are we in this world. As He is, so are we. I’ll write more on this when it sinks into my brain and settles in my heart a bit more.

Joel 2:25

I will restore to you the years that the swarming locust has eaten, the hopper, the destroyer, and the cutter, my great army, which I sent among you.

Our God is a redeemer of even time! All the time we have wasted or has been robbed from us, don't worry. He can and will redeem.

Ezekiel 1:28

Like the appearance of the bow that is in the cloud on the day of rain, so was the appearance of the brightness all around. Such was the appearance of the likeness of the glory of the Lord. And when I saw it, I fell on my face, and I heard the voice of one speaking.

This verse is one of my all time favorite verses ever. Jesus found me when I was in a very low and dark place in my life. I love the imagery here because that is exactly how He appears. Like a rainbow in the sky on the cloudiest of days, so it is when He shows up in the darkest of circumstances. May my response always be just as Ezekiel’s: facedown and listening.

Haggai 1:5-6

Now, therefore, thus says the Lord of hosts: Consider your ways. 6You have sown much, and harvested little. You eat, but you never have enough; you drink, but you never have your fill. You clothe yourselves, but no one is warm. And he who earns wages does so to put them into a bag with holes.

Love these verses. God is telling the people to check themselves because their priorities have gotten all out of whack. It is insanity right? Doing the same things and expecting different results. What a humbling reminder.

Habakkuk 3:18

Yet I will rejoice in the Lord; I will take joy in the God of my salvation.

Habakkuk is a total treasure and by far my favorite old testament book. I suggest you read the whole book which is only 3 chapters. In short, in the previous verses Habakkuk has basically said that everything around him was failing and falling apart. Then comes this verse. Yet! Yet I will praise Him. I don't care what happening around me, I will take joy in the God of my salvation.
