8 Best Bible Verses For Peace & Comfort

Life is constantly changing. Sometimes that's a great thing and sometimes those changes come with some serious challenges. Regardless of what life throws at us, the Bible is packed full of verses for peace, comfort and strength and how we can claim them in every season.

As you regulars may know Mike and I just had our first child. We are currently in the “newborn season” of life, and it is a lot of work, y'all. It’s so amazing and beautiful and exciting, but it is also exhausting and at times really frustrating and discouraging.

In this season we have been discussing and claiming the peace of God more and more.

The bible is full of verses for peace and comfort so today I want to share some of the scriptures that we have really been clinging to. My prayer for you is that regardless of what season you find yourself in, that the peace of God would guard your hearts and minds.

Colossians 3:15

Let your heart be always guided by the peace of the Anointed One, who called you to peace as part of his one body. And always be thankful.

You have been called to peace. Peace is God’s will for your life. A great first question is, “what is the peace of God?” Well, the Greek word used for peace here means a lot of things like tranquility, harmony, security, safety, and prosperity.

Peace is a state of being in which you are at rest even in challenging circumstances. Whose not interested in more of that?

 1 Peter 5:7

Pour out all your worries and stress upon him and leave them there, for he always tenderly cares for you.

You may be wondering, “How do you cast your cares on God?” Great question. It takes an active decision. When you are worried and anxious, you must choose to believe that He is for you and then you tell Him what has you fretting and why and then you trust that He is working on your behalf.

Sometimes you’ll have to do this over and over. Every time that worry or care comes back to your mind you remind it that it has been laid at the feet of Jesus and that it is taken care of. 2 Corinthians 10:6 explains this as taking every thought captive and forcing them to submit to the obedience of Jesus Christ.

Philippians 4:6-7

Don’t be pulled in different directions or worried about a thing. Be saturated in prayer throughout each day, offering your faith-filled requests before God with overflowing gratitude. Tell him every detail of your life, then God’s wonderful peace that transcends human understanding, will make the answers known to you through Jesus Christ.

Worry is ultimately a choice. It’s hard to see it that way because we do it so often it is usually an identifying quality, but nevertheless, it is a choice. Which is actually good news because there are things we can do to combat it.

One tool we have to resist worry and claim peace is prayer. Philippians encourages us to pray about everything. God is interested in ALL the details of your life. There is actually a promise in these verses. They tell us that if we will pray and include God in the aspects of our life, we make space for the peace of God to fill our lives.

Psalm 29:11

This is the one who gives his strength and might to his people. This is the Lord giving us his kiss of peace.

Peace is a gift. It is part of your inheritance as a child of God. In seasons of high stress or turmoil, we tend to get so distracted by what is happening around us that we forget about peace. My encouragement to you today is to claim peace even when life is raging.

Psalm 85:8

Now I’ll listen carefully for your voice and wait to hear whatever you say. Let me hear your promise of peace— the message every one of your godly lovers longs to hear. Don’t let us in our ignorance turn back from following you.

One of my favorite places to turn when I am needing peace is to the Psalms. They are filled with so many believers crying out for peace, strength, and comfort.

The Psalmists knew how to cry out and tell God when they were struggling or being persecuted. They would say to Him when they felt alone or abandoned. They were honest about how they felt, but the writers also had this way of getting back to the truth regardless of whether or not the truth lined up with how they felt.

If you are needing some verses on peace look to the Psalms.

Isaiah 26:3

“You will keep in perfect and constant peace the one whose mind is steadfast [that is, committed and focused on You--in both inclination and character], Because he trusts and takes refuge in You [with hope and confident expectation].

This is a life verse in the Robinson household. It is such a compelling promise to remember when life gets tough. When we were laboring with our son, this was the verse I just kept repeating in my head (in the moments I was able to think straight that is.) over and over.
When they rushed us to a C Section because my baby’s heart rate was falling, this was the verse I focused on.

Here’s how you keep your mind stayed upon the Lord. What is something amazing He has done for you? Think through that whole story. Tell yourself from beginning to end what He did as if you were telling a stranger. After that what is something else He’s done for you? Tell yourself that story. If you think you don’t have any stories, then know that you’re wrong. We all have them. Ask God to show you the places in your life where He’s been faithful towards you.

Now tell yourself He’s faithful. You have proof in the stories you just described yourself. Remind yourself that He is wildly in love with you. Tell yourself about how He is for you. Rest in that fact that NOTHING scares Him. Find peace in the truth that with Him ALL things are possible. Do this over and over, and you’ll have peace.

Isaiah 54:10

“For the mountains may be removed and the hills may shake, But My lovingkindness will not be removed from you, Nor will My covenant of peace be shaken,” Says the Lord who has compassion on you.

This verse has been a life verse for me for years and years. I am one who dreads the thought of people leaving me. Abandonment does crazy things to your heart and mind. I can become more fixated on the fact that my birth mother gave me up for adoption than the fact that my father chose me and that my foster parents chose to claim me even to this day as theirs.

I have all these people who want me yet I can get stuck on the one who for whatever reason chose to let me go.

Here’s the best news ever: God will never leave you. He promises even if the hills and mountains decide to get up and run from you, He NEVER will. He is with you forever, and so is His peace. He is the Prince of Peace and He is forever closer to you than your skin.

John 14:27

“I leave the gift of peace with you—my peace. Not the kind of fragile peace given by the world, but my perfect peace. Don’t yield to fear or be troubled in your hearts—instead, be courageous!

Peace is powerful. Peace reminds you that you are safe and secure and in that place of security you are free to prosper and thrive. Jesus paid for your peace. It’s paid for, and it’s yours. Believe that. Refuse to yield to fear, doubt or lies. Take courage and trust that peace is all around you. Just reach out and claim it.

I seriously feel better even just writing these verses out for you. Peace is a beautiful thing our Father has gifted to us. I pray these verses find a home in your heart and bring your comfort in this season of life and the ones to come.

Also as sort of an action step you could take, I encourage you to pick a couple of these verses and get them onto the walls of your home somehow. We have Isaiah 54:10 and Isaiah 26:3 on the walls of our bedroom and I can not tell you how many times they’ve caught my eye while rocking my newborn in the middle of the night and reminded me that I have the peace of God.
