Bible Verses for Strength
/We all have seasons in life where we feel beat down and wore out. Stress sneaks up on you and threatens to overwhelm you while you're busy trying to beat worry into submission. Luckily the Bible has tons of verses for when you are needing strength. God is so good. Sometimes we forget that God is our strength. We waste time by using up our own resources and when we’ve worn ourselves out and gotten in over our heads, God is there to restore and replenish.
Here are five bible verses for strength when you are tired and need help. Lets start with one of my very favorites.
But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me. For the sake of Christ, then, I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities. For when I am weak, then I am strong. 2 Corinthians 12:9-10 ESV
I love this verse because it reminds me that I am limited. I have limits. You have limits! Human beings are AMAZING! We can accomplish incomprehensible things! Nevertheless we are all limited in how much we can offer, how much we have to give, how much we can take, etc. This verse also reminds us that God is not. In fact He causes us to thrive when we are at our weakest. I always say, God does His best work in impossible situations.
I know how to be brought low, and I know how to abound. In any and every circumstance, I have learned the secret of facing plenty and hunger, abundance and need. I can do all things through him who strengthens me. Philippians 4:12-13 ESV
Now you’ve probably heard this verse before and that is because it’s just so good! Paul said he learned the secret to facing anything life could throw at him! That’s a pretty big deal. He goes a step farther to tell us what that secret is! We don’t have to guess or search for clues and figure it out on our own. Paul tells us the secret to facing any and every circumstance. He says “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me!” The secret is learning to press into God and learning to receive His strength!
My soul melts away for sorrow; strengthen me according to your word! Psalm 119:28 ESV
Is sorrow, sadness or depression wearing on your soul? Know that it is okay to cry out to God and tell Him what’s happening in your soul and heart. He actually already knows so why not just open up and cry out to Him? His word is full of hope and promises. Get into that word (aka the Bible) and let it strengthen you!
God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Psalm 46:1 ESV
This sweet verse calms my soul and it is my hope that it will have the same effect on you. God is a very present God. How beautiful is that? He is also our refuge. A refuge is a place where you can find safety and shelter from anything that may be pursuing you, and danger that may be threatening or any trouble you may find yourself in. I did a whole post about trusting in God that you should check out.
Have you not known? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint or grow weary; his understanding is unsearchable. He gives power to the faint, and to him who has no might he increases strength. Even youths shall faint and be weary, and young men shall fall exhausted; but they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint. Isaiah 40:28-31
God has no limitations. He never gets tired or weary. He is also full of unconditional love. Because He loves us He is able and willing to help us. He promises to be our strength.
