Bible Verses For Overwhelm & Fatigue - Scriptures For The Overwhelmed Heart

Verses of Scripture for when you are feeling overwhelmed. What does the Bible say about being overwhelmed? Where is God when I am overwhelmed?

We all know how it feels to be completely overwhelmed and exhausted. The good news I have for you today is even if overwhelm comes to visit, you don't have to let it stay around. Here are some of my very favorite Bible verses for overwhelm and fatigu

We all know how it feels to be completely overwhelmed and exhausted.

Life get's hectic and the feeling of overwhelm can begin to feel like an old familiar friend. The good news I have for you today is even if overwhelm comes to visit, you don't have to let it stay around. Here are some of my very favorite Bible verses for overwhelm and fatigue. I pray they bring you some encouragement when challenging seasons sneak up on you.

REFOCUS

In Matthew 14 we read about Jesus’ disciples' journey across the sea. Jesus sends them out ahead of him and tells them he'll catch up.

These men are experienced fishermen, so no big deal right? Once they hot out there, a serious storm hits. In the middle of all this tossing, they see a person walking across the water towards their boat.

Can you even imagine?

You are in the middle of a crazy storm and out of the corner of you eye you catch a glimpse of a person walking towards you. You're nowhere near the shore of course you freak out a little bit.

The disciples come to the conclusion many a sane person would reach.

A GHOST!

Only no! Not a ghost but Jesus.

So naturally, Peter gets this crazy idea that if it really is Jesus then he wants to walk out on the water to meet Him. Jesus tells Peter to come and Peter actually steps out of the boat and onto the raging sea with faith that Jesus had his back and he walks out across the water.

I tell you this because that’s how things start. We take off with excitement and faith but once we are out there we are tempted to do the same thing Peter did.

So He said, “Come.” And when Peter had come down out of the boat, he walked on the water to go to Jesus. But when he saw that the wind was boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink he cried out, saying, “Lord, save me!” And immediately Jesus stretched out His hand and caught him, and said to him, “O you of little faith, why did you doubt?
— Matthew 14:29-31

We take our eyes off of the one who gives us strength and we survey the surroundings and we measure the distance between us and our goal and we get distracted and we get overwhelmed.

When you are feeling overwhelmed you must shift your focus to Jesus. Seek His heart for you in your current circumstances. Look to Him for wisdom and clarity and trust Him for strength and rest.

BE LED

Hear my cry, O God; Attend to my prayer. From the end of the earth I will cry to You, When my heart is overwhelmed; Lead me to the rock that is higher than I.
— Psalm 61:1-2

This verse is a life verse staple. I encourage you to pray this verse over yourself and whatever you are facing.

Pray:

"Father I need help. I am in over my head and I need you to lead me to the rock that is higher than I. God, lead me and pull me up out of this chaos. Help me find high ground so I am not sinking under the weight of it all, but help me get above it so that I can actually be productive."

It’s in that place that you can really get to work at solving those issues. God cares about your life. He cares about the things weighing on you and He wants to be involved.

No matter what your juggling or how bogged down you are there is always a Rock that is higher than you. Just lift your head beloved child of God.

REST

Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.
— Matthew 11:28-30

God loves honesty and He is not intimidated by our honesty. There is help for an honest person. The problem is, most overwhelmed people, myself included, find it hard to admit that they are in over their heads.

If we can humble ourselves and admit that we are overwhelmed God has such a beautiful invitation for us. He says come. He invites the tired, the weary, and the heavy-laden to come to Him and find rest for their souls. Who doesn't need more rest for their souls?

Have an honest conversation with God. Tell Him, “I am in over my head. I can’t do this. I am tired and I am weary. I have labored. I have exhausted my own strength and I know that was wrong of me to try and do it all on my own. I need your help. I need your strength and guidance. If this is going to get done/planned/solved/built/etc. it’s going to have to be you. Teach me to rest in you and your finished work yet again.”

BE STILL

Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth! The Lord of hosts is with us; The God of Jacob is our refuge.
— Psalm 46:10-11

Be still. That is so hard when you feel like your to-do list has a mind and will of its own.

Do it anyway. When you feel like your breaking point is just around the corner crouched and waiting to pounce on you then you waited too long to be still.

Just sit for a minute. Meditate on the goodness of God. Take your focus off of all of the stuff and be still. Listen for the Lord. Time is never wasted when it is spent with the Lord.

I hope these verses will help you next time you've tacked ten too many things to your to-do list. Timeouts to refocus will help you to be more productive in the long run.
